"Part Of Your Daily Routine" (Alyssa's Story)

Written by Greg Bullock on 19th Feb 2018

We cannot even count the number of customers who tell us that poor lighting in the office affects their health. It just seems to be a common narrative among people with light sensitivity and migraine as well as post-concussion syndrome and traumatic brain injury. Alyssa is the most recent to share her story, including how TheraSpecs helped her better manage her migraine attacks on the job.

Starting in 2010, Alyssa had to deal with episodic migraine attacks, but they became a chronic problem just a few years later. Unfortunately, she realized that her workspace lighting was contributing to the problem.

"I worked in different locations for my job at the time, one where I was in my own office—and could control the amount of light I had—and another in a cube where I did not have control of the lighting situation. I began noticing that my migraines were much worse when I was working in my cube," she said.

The discomfort of these attacks ultimately sparked her to research options for how she could improve her symptoms while under artificial light. While there are numerous ways to accommodate migraine at work, TheraSpecs seemed like the best option because they directly addressed a major trigger. This meant that our precision-tinted lenses could help reduce the pain associated with fluorescent lighting.

Alyssa subsequently opted for the Audrey Indoor pair (in the ultra stylish blue tortoise finish) to utilize in the office, and she soon realized just how much they helped.

"I started wearing them whenever I was working on my computer and noticed a huge difference. I either would not have a migraine attack at all, or I would last longer on the computer without one popping up," she said. "I now have two pairs so that I can keep one in my work bag and one at home."

After some initial hesitation about wearing tinted glasses around the office, her concerns quickly dissipated when coworkers offered compliments on her TheraSpecs style or were interested in how they helped people with sensitivity to light, eye strain and other issues. And if she has a recommendation for anyone considering TheraSpecs, it is this:

"For someone who isn't used to wearing glasses, it takes a little bit to get used to wearing them and making sure you have them with you, but it will quickly become a part of your daily routine. I love my glasses."
