PHOENIX, Ariz.—February 28, 2018—The growth and innovation of TheraSpecs® Company has captured the attention of one of the nation’s elite bioscience organizations. The Flinn Foundation, which is dedicated to advancing Arizona’s rich community of medical and scientific innovators, has selected TheraSpecs for inclusion in its 2018 Bioscience Entrepreneurship Program.
"TheraSpecs and the other five companies chosen this year are further evidence of the amazing innovation that is occurring in the biosciences here in Arizona," said Tammy McLeod, Flinn Foundation President and CEO, in a statement. "The leaders of these companies demonstrate both the talent and entrepreneurial spirit to bring new technologies to market that improve and save lives."
TheraSpecs was one of six companies selected for the program. A panel of industry leaders evaluated firms on numerous factors such as their unique value proposition, management team experience, demonstrated market traction, and potential impact. Notable past honorees have included Pinnacle Transplant Technologies, EndoVantage and NeoLight.
In addition to numerous business and industry-relevant contacts, chosen businesses will also each have access to $30,000 in funding.
"The advisory and financial support we can access through the Flinn Foundation will enable us to significantly accelerate our growth," said TheraSpecs founder and CEO Hart Shafer. "Being accepted into this program is a great validation of our mission and impact, and comes at just the right time to assist our efforts to scale rapidly into new markets."
This latest distinction already follows another year of record growth for TheraSpecs, whose precision-tinted eyewear products continue to bring relief to thousands of patients with migraine, traumatic brain injury and other conditions that are triggered or worsened by light. To keep pace with increasing consumer demand, the company also nearly doubled its operational footprint last fall and has an ambitious hiring strategy, which includes newly available positions.
