Benefits of FL-Sun
1Dark, polarized FL-41 lenses for outside use2Best for sensitivity to sunlight and outdoor glare3Also great for wearing as general sunglasses4Available in 2 lens strengths for more personalized protection
Frequently Asked Questions about FL-Sun
How does FL-Sun differ from normal sunglasses?
Our FL-Sun lenses are dark, polarized, and filter specific wavelengths of irritating light—making them a more protective option for people who are light sensitive. Typical sunglasses are not designed to target these problematic wavelengths, and many are not even polarized, which makes them less effective for outdoor glare.
FL-Sun is also available in two lens strengths, and can be made with your prescription too, so you can make sure they meet your needs.
Does FL-Sun use FL-41?
Yes, our FL-Sun lenses use the FL-41 tint, which filters the most harmful wavelengths of light between 480-520nm. These are the wavelengths most responsible for aggravating sensitivity to light. In addition, FL-Sun features a dark, polarized lens designed to reduce overall brightness and glare outdoors.
With its advanced filtering properties, FL-Sun can also help people to live well with migraine, as part of a light management plan.
Is FL-Sun polarized?
Yes, FL-Sun is the only polarized TheraSpecs lens, which makes it effective for managing bright sunlight and harsh outdoor glare. Like all TheraSpecs lenses, FL-Sun also blocks 100% UV light and features an anti-glare coating for added protection.
Does FL-Sun come in multiple strengths? Which one should I choose?
Yes, FL-Sun is available in multiple tint strengths. The right option depends on your level of light sensitivity and how much filtering you need. Higher strengths provide more filtering for stronger or more frequent sensitivity. Here are the different strengths of FL-Sun:
Dark+ offers more protection than typical sunglasses. It’s dark, polarized, and suitable for everyday outdoor use. Ultradark+ is significantly darker, more similar to ski goggles, and designed for extreme light sensitivity. It is not suitable for driving.
If you’re not sure where to start, our lens assistant can help guide you based on your environment and preferences.
How does FL-Sun compare to other TheraSpecs lenses?
FL-Sun is part of our FL-41 lens family. These lenses use the same core tint but vary in strength and intended use. We also offer other lens options that target different parts of the light spectrum, so here’s how FL-Sun compares to all our lenses:

When should I wear FL-Sun lenses? Can I wear them indoors?
We recommend FL-Sun if you experience any light sensitivity when outdoors or if you just want a great pair of sunglasses.
It is not recommended that you wear FL-Sun indoors as it could worsen any sensitivity to light over time. If you are wanting a lens option to wear inside—for screens, fluorescents, or other artificial light—try FL-Pro instead.
Can I wear FL-Sun while driving?
FL-Sun in Dark+ strength can be worn while driving during the day; however, FL-Sun in Ultradark+ strength is not suitable for driving and road use because it does not allow sufficient light transmission in all wavelengths of the spectrum for all color-perceiving activities.
No FL-Sun lens should be worn for driving at night. For night driving, consider our Flex or Contrast HEV lenses.
Can I get FL-Sun TheraSpecs in my prescription or as readers?
Yes, you can get FL-Sun lenses with your prescription or with reader correction. (Note: WearOver styles are non-prescription only.) Simply tap/click on your preferred frame style above, choose either "Prescription" or "Reading Glasses" under Lens Correction, and complete the rest of the options before adding to your cart.
What if FL-Sun does not work for me?
You have 60 days for returns or exchanges of all non-custom TheraSpecs, so you can make sure FL-Sun is the best option for your needs. If you are wanting prescription or reader TheraSpecs, we suggest starting with one of our fully refundable fitover styles.
