Benefits of Z-Blue

Frequently Asked Questions about Z-Blue
How does Z-Blue work?
Z-Blue targets wavelengths in the red portion of the light spectrum between 580–640nm, which is associated with photosensitivity and other strong reactions in the brain. It is designed to reduce the impact of visually intense or disorienting light, from strobe lighting at concerts to intense flashing in shows, movies, or video games.
In addition, TheraSpecs Z-Blue in max strength features substantially the same filtering properties and performance as Zeiss® Z1 lenses.
Does Z-Blue filter blue light? How does Z-Blue compare to regular blue light glasses?
Z-Blue does block a small percentage of blue light, but its primary purpose is different from standard blue light glasses. Rather than broadly targeting everyday blue light exposure, Z-Blue is designed to filter the wavelengths associated with flashing lights, motion, and visually intense environments.
If you are looking for glasses that target more blue light, you should instead consider one of our other lens options like Flex or Contrast HEV for general blue light protection or FL-Pro if you need enhanced protection.
How does Z-Blue compare to other TheraSpecs lenses?
Z-Blue is designed specifically for environments with flashing, flickering, or rapidly changing light as well as disorienting patterns. Here’s how it compares to all of our lenses:

Does Z-Blue come in multiple strengths? Which one should I choose?
Yes, Z-Blue is available in multiple tint strengths. The right option depends on your level of light sensitivity and how much filtering you need. Stronger strengths provide more filtering for stronger or more frequent sensitivity. Here are the different strengths of Z-Blue:
If you’re not sure where to start, our lens assistant can help guide you based on your environment and preferences.
When should I wear Z-Blue lenses? Can I wear them outside?
Z-Blue is ideal for any exposure to flashing or other high-intensity lighting. This includes visible flicker from screens, malfunctioning light sources, strobe lights at concerts or sporting events, flashing or fast-motion sequences in movies or video games, emergency lighting on vehicles, and more.
Z-Blue also can help manage sensitivity to disorienting patterns, such as striped designs or sunlight flickering through trees. For extreme photosensitivity, we recommend Z-Blue in Max strength.
They can be worn both indoors and outdoors, depending on where you experience sensitivity. However, they are not designed specifically for bright sunlight. If your main concern is sunlight sensitivity, a darker lens like FL-Sun may be a better option.
Can I get Z-Blue in my prescription or as readers?
Yes, you can get Z-Blue lenses with your prescription or with reader correction. (Note: WearOver styles are non-prescription only.) Simply tap/click on your preferred frame style above, choose either "Prescription" or "Reading Glasses" under Lens Correction, and complete the rest of the options before adding to your cart.
TheraSpecs can also be made with prism prescription, a further tool for managing visual sensitivity.
What if Z-Blue does not work for me?
You have 60 days for returns or exchanges of all non-custom TheraSpecs, so you can make sure Z-Blue is the best option for your needs. If you are wanting prescription or reader TheraSpecs, we suggest starting with one of our fully refundable fitover styles.
"I was able to attend my first concert since being diagnosed because of your glasses. It’s so difficult being in this age range (college) because so many events have light sequences. Your glasses have allowed me to escape social isolation and go out with my friends to local shows and even church events that include light."
— Ginny, Virginia"The Z-Blue lens with my prescription has been amazing with decreasing sensitivities when looking at the computer."
— Lucia"I was so excited when I went to a concert that the flashing lights didn’t bother me for the first time in my life."
— April"My partner LOVES these!!! He was even able to go to a Christmas light walk through with our son…"

Your new ally for flashing lights and repeating patterns
Z-Blue™ is your upgraded defense for visibly flashing lights and repeating patterns. From strobe lighting at concerts to intense flashing during your favorite shows or movies, this lens cuts down on the problematic wavelengths from 580-640nm to protect you from light wherever you are. If you are photosensitive and find environments with disorienting visual stimuli to be unsettling or cause you to feel overloaded, Z-Blue can help put you back in control.
*If your main concern is fluorescent lighting, we recommend starting with FL-Pro.
