The [FL-Pro] glasses have been a lifesaver. I can now go into fluorescent lighted stores without fear…It means that I can travel again and not dread airports. The [FL-Sun] pair brings me instant relief when I am in bright sunlight and makes driving a pleasure again.

I can finally go to concerts again, watch certain shows/videos, drive at night or past forests and live life again without worrying about strobe flashing lights! I haven't been to a concert since I was 15 and turned down many memory making moments or had to leave events because of it.
Jocelyn

Your glasses saved my career. In 2018 I discovered terrible eye trouble [due to] fluorescent lights. It was so debilitating, I thought I’d have to either go on disability or get a non-computer / outside job. I discovered the FL-41 tint, and it has changed my world. This is my second pair of TheraSpecs. Thank you for what you do. You have impacted my life so much. I’m grateful.
Megan

I was suffering tremendously at work from the fluorescent lights [and] computer monitors…My eyes had trouble focusing everyday and on the weekends. I decided to do some research and came across TheraSpecs. These glasses are a miracle. I've had them for a few weeks now and all my previous problems are gone. I can't say enough good things and wish I would have tried them sooner.

How do TheraSpecs work? How do they manage light sensitivity?

TheraSpecs work by filtering specific wavelengths of light before they reach your eyes. Each lens targets a different range of light, which is why some are better for screens and fluorescents, some for outdoor glare, and others for flashing lights or evening blue light exposure.

In addition to precision tinting, TheraSpecs lenses also include features like 100% UV protection and protective coatings that help reduce glare and scratches. By reducing exposure to these irritating wavelengths, TheraSpecs can help make different lighting environments more comfortable for people with light sensitivity.

What lens options does TheraSpecs offer? How do I choose a lens type and tint?

The best lens depends on what kind of light bothers you most and where you need support most often. Here is a list of our lens options:

  • FL-Pro™ (available in 3 strengths): offers the strongest FL-41 protection for artificial lights and digital device screens
  • FL-Blend™ (available in 2 strengths): balances FL-41 protection against screen and other artificial light with more natural color perception
  • Z-Blue™ (available in 3 strengths): filters the most problematic wavelengths from flashing and/or repeating lights and patterns
  • Flex (available in 2 options): Uses FL-41 to take the edge off of harsh and/or bright light with our most subtle tints
  • Sleep: removes 100% of blue light and may help promote healthy sleep when worn before bedtime
  • Contrast HEV™: may bring greater visual contrast and comfort for screens and bright light
  • FL-Sun™ (available in 2 strengths): FL-41 powered to enhance outdoor protection—the best sunglasses lens you've ever tried

You can view the lens strengths here. If you’re not sure where to start, our Lens Assistant can help narrow down the best option for your lifestyle and sensitivity needs.

What is FL-41 and do TheraSpecs use it?

FL-41 is a specialized lens tint designed to filter specific wavelengths of light most commonly associated with light sensitivity. In particular, FL-41 targets blue-green wavelengths between 480–520nm, the range where the human eye is especially sensitive. These wavelengths are commonly emitted by artificial light sources like screens and fluorescents as well as natural sunlight.

FL-41 is often recognized as a rose-colored tint, though TheraSpecs offers it in several variations—from lighter rose or plum tones to darker sunglass lenses. Our FL-41 lineup includes FL-Pro, FL-Blend, Flex, and FL-Sun. Each is designed for different environments and levels of light exposure.

Each lens type also comes in different strengths, so you can choose the level of filtering that best fits your environment and sensitivity needs. As part of a light management plan, TheraSpecs FL-41 glasses can help people live well with migraine.

Do TheraSpecs help with screens?

Yes, several TheraSpecs lenses are designed specifically for screen-heavy environments. For example, FL-Pro and FL-Blend are designed to provide the strongest filtering of the wavelengths commonly emitted by computer and device screens, while subtler options like Flex may be a good fit for milder sensitivity associated with regular screen use. Depending on your needs, other lenses like Contrast HEV or Z-Blue may also help with certain screen environments. This can make long hours in front of screens more comfortable for people with light sensitivity.

Why are TheraSpecs better than standard blue light glasses?

Most standard blue light glasses use lighter, general-purpose lenses that filter a small portion of blue light near UV. However, research on light sensitivity shows that the wavelengths most often associated with discomfort fall within a broader blue-green range (between 480-520nm), which many standard blue light lenses do not fully address.

TheraSpecs target those specific wavelengths and environments more precisely, with multiple lens options tuned for different types of lighting such as screens, artificial light, outdoor glare, and flashing lights.

What is the science behind TheraSpecs?

Each TheraSpecs lens was developed through a review of published, peer-reviewed research on light sensitivity and wavelength filtering. Rather than applying a single tint across all situations, that research informed a range of lenses designed to target the specific parts of the light spectrum most associated with discomfort in a given environment.

Because lens color alone doesn’t determine which wavelengths are filtered, two lenses that look similar can still block very different parts of the light spectrum. That’s what allows us to offer meaningful differences between lenses, not just cosmetic ones.

Can I get TheraSpecs with my prescription?

Yes. TheraSpecs frames can be made with custom prescription lenses, including single-vision, lined bifocal, progressive/multifocal, and reader options. You can also choose from our WearOver frames that fit comfortably over your existing glasses.
