What is FL-41 and do TheraSpecs use it?
FL-41 is a specialized lens tint designed to filter specific wavelengths of light most commonly associated with light sensitivity. In particular, FL-41 targets blue-green wavelengths between 480–520nm, the range where the human eye is especially sensitive. These wavelengths are commonly emitted by artificial light sources like screens and fluorescents as well as natural sunlight.
FL-41 is often recognized as a rose-colored tint, though TheraSpecs offers it in several variations—from lighter rose or plum tones to darker sunglass lenses. Our FL-41 lineup includes FL-Pro, FL-Blend, Flex, and FL-Sun. Each is designed for different environments and levels of light exposure.

Do TheraSpecs help with screens?
Yes, several TheraSpecs lenses are designed specifically for screen-heavy environments. For example, FL-Pro and FL-Blend are designed to provide the strongest filtering of the wavelengths commonly emitted by computer and device screens, while subtler options like Flex may be a good fit for milder sensitivity associated with regular screen use. Depending on your needs, other lenses like Contrast HEV or Z-Blue may also help with certain screen environments. This can make long hours in front of screens more comfortable for people with light sensitivity.
Why are TheraSpecs better than standard blue light glasses?
Most standard blue light glasses use lighter, general-purpose lenses that filter a small portion of blue light near UV. However, research on light sensitivity shows that the wavelengths most often associated with discomfort fall within a broader blue-green range (between 480-520nm), which many standard blue light lenses do not fully address.
TheraSpecs target those specific wavelengths and environments more precisely, with multiple lens options tuned for different types of lighting such as screens, artificial light, outdoor glare, and flashing lights.
What is the science behind TheraSpecs?
Each TheraSpecs lens was developed through a review of published, peer-reviewed research on light sensitivity and wavelength filtering. Rather than applying a single tint across all situations, that research informed a range of lenses designed to target the specific parts of the light spectrum most associated with discomfort in a given environment.
Because lens color alone doesn’t determine which wavelengths are filtered, two lenses that look similar can still block very different parts of the light spectrum. That’s what allows us to offer meaningful differences between lenses, not just cosmetic ones.
Can I get TheraSpecs with my prescription?
Yes. TheraSpecs frames can be made with custom prescription lenses, including single-vision, lined bifocal, progressive/multifocal, and reader options. You can also choose from our WearOver frames that fit comfortably over your existing glasses.
*TheraSpecs Flex transmits approximately 82% of all light and Contrast HEV transmits approximately 90% of all light, making them compliant with traffic laws in most places for night driving. However, users are responsible for ensuring their use complies with all applicable traffic regulations and that road lighting is sufficient for safe use. Always drive responsibly and remain attentive to the road and lighting conditions, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
