Choosing Your Best TheraSpecs Style (Part 1): Indoor vs Outdoor

Written by Greg Bullock on 20th Dec 2016

If you are eager to try TheraSpecs glasses because of the promise of relief from harmful light but you are not sure about which exact style you should choose, then look no further! Over the next few weeks, we are presenting a series of blog articles where we will be answering some of the most common customer questions that we hear to help you select the best TheraSpecs style. In this post, we present the differences between our indoor and outdoor lenses.

Which type of TheraSpecs lenses should I start with: indoor or outdoor?

For individuals with light sensitive conditions such as migraine or concussion, both TheraSpecs indoor and outdoor lenses offer the protection of our precision tint. This tint, which is supported by decades of published research, has been shown to reduce migraine attacks by as much as 74% as well as lessen painful light sensitivity; it accomplishes this by filtering specific wavelengths of blue light present in many everyday light sources. Thus, the choice between indoor or outdoor comes down to where light most often triggers your condition or otherwise makes you feel bad. Our indoor lenses help block the light that emanates from fluorescents, computer screens, and other interior sources. Our outdoor lenses cut down on bright sunlight and nasty outside glare.

When people think of glasses for light sensitivity, it is likely that they are envisioning the kind of relief that comes with the use of indoor TheraSpecs. Our indoor lenses are light enough to allow for routine daily activities, such as working under office lighting or on a mobile device or computer for an extended period of time. Going to concerts, watching movies, or visiting the grocery store are other scenarios where our indoor tint has been effective in preventing attacks. This improves upon a common practice today of regularly wearing sunglasses indoors, thus eliminating the potential for dark adaptation (or increasing light sensitivity over time) as well as minimizing possible social stigma by allowing others to see your eyes during interactions.

Conversely, our outdoor lenses were designed exclusively to combat exterior light. Like sunglasses, they are much darker than indoor TheraSpecs and include polarization to minimize blinding glare, such as light that reflects off of pavement, snow, cars and water. They also can help against pesky flashing car and signal lights, although neither indoor nor outdoor are legal for night driving. Many will find that a quality pair of dark, polarized sunglasses provide enough relief under bright sunshine, but if you need greater protection you should consider outdoor TheraSpecs. And if both types of light impact your quality of life, it maybe best to try one of the discounted combo options available through our store: https://www.theraspecs.com/shop/.
